Sare Gumalo. Waterpump

The 800 inhabitants of the village of Sare on the North Bank have to cope with drinking water problems.
The pump of the well is out of order. The bearings and piston van the present pump have so much backlash that it takes a very long time to pump up water. An electric pump with solar panels on the 40 meter well would be a great solution to the problems of these people.
The Village Development Committee is making an appeal to Helping Hands for financing this project.

To complete the project we still need some D509,120.00 (13397 euro)

"The beneficiary villages are Sare Gumalo, Nyiribakoyoya and Lalia. Over 800 people, over 700 cattle, horses and donkeys and over 800 goats and sheep in the three villages will benefit from the project. The project will also safe the women and girls from the trouble of drawing water from the 40 metres deep wells. It will also help the communities to do small scale vegetable production to enhance their nutritional status and income generation".

Completed the Sare Gumalo water project.

Many thanks for everything the Antwerp Banjul Challenge are doing for my community in particular,Gambians and the Gambia in general.

The only things hindering the completion of the project is the Solar installation. The solar panels and all its accessories including the electric submerged pump are yet to be bought. As at December last year (2010), the cost was D207,000. So it is now estimated to cost about D220,350.

The auction generated D311,000 out of which JFP took their 15% auction amounting to D46,650. So only D264,350 went to the project.

So if you add the D61,000 that was donated cash to the proceeds from the auction the grand total was:D325,350.

The amount needed to complete the project prior to the March 2011 challenge was D509,820.
So if you subtract D325,350 from that (D509,820), you will have D184,470.
With the inflation, and the 15% that the JFP will take from the auctioncosts, the total amount needed to completed the Project has been estimated at D225,500.

Because 15% of D184470 =D27,670, and the price of the solar panels and all other accompanying gadgets have also increased by about D13,350 according to our latest prices survey.

There fore as highlighted above we need an extra D225,500 ( 6000 euro) to complete the project.
