Jammeh Foundation Hospitaal

In the past this hospital provided free care to patients. Now patients must pay an amount of 5 Dalasis (€ 0.05).
Therefore people come to this hospital from all over the region. The result is that some situations at the hospital are inhuman. There are always patients waiting for treatment both inside and outside the building, day and night.
The hospital was not meant to treat so many patients. There are only two doctors. Four patients share one bed.
Each day 20 babies are born. Three hours after birth mother and child are discharged to make way for the next patient.
The ambulance was parked in the inner court because there was no money for petrol.

The Challengers filled its tank out of their own jerry cans, after which we often came across the ambulance with sirens wailing.
There is an urgent need for funds for medicines, umbilical cord clamps, bedclothes, mattresses etc.
Child mortality is high here because of shortage of anti-malaria medication.
