Seyone.
Construction multifunctional centre

The village of Seyone is in the western part of the Gambia, the administrative area of Kombo Central, western Region.
It is an agricultural community of 1600 inhabitants. There are no farming machines, so work is done by hand or locally produced tools.
During the rainy season the village is completely shut off from the outside world, since the terribly poor sand roads are flooded.

The Seyone Village Committee (SVDC) is making an effort to convince people that illegal logging is only increasing the problem.
75% of the population has never had any education. All essential shopping can only be done in Brikima, 10 kms away.
The inhabitants would like to have a building, in which they can unfold commercial activities to provide for themselves. The construction of a multi-functional centre will also create an opportunity to give lessons in sewing, batik making, soap making, farming and market gardening. There are also plans to teach young people and women in entrepreneurial skills.
A construction site of the centre, 100x100 mtrs, is already there and in the possession of the village community of Seyone.
The inhabitants want to help build the centre. They are already have 6 sewing machines for a commercial use in this centre. An estimate for the construction has been made of 838, 815 Dalasis / 23,960 Euro.
The central garden of Seyone, in which the population grow vegetables and trees on a commercial basis, should be relocated, since the present location is not very suitable. An other location also means an other fence. An appeal has been made to the organization to meet expenses for this.
