Yundum, Het bouwen van een kraamkliniek

Stichting Mama Africa for Gambia zet zich al enkele jaren in voor onderwijs en gezondheidszorg in Gambia.
Wij geloven dat investeren in onderwijs en gezondheidszorg de manier is om de Gambiaanse bevolking te helpen. Wij zijn ons bewust van de noodzaak om individueel en collectief bij te dragen aan het verbeteren van de situatie, de conditie en het welzijn van de bevolking voor een betere gezondheid en opleiding voor iedereen.
De stichting werkt nauw samen met de regionale autoriteiten ( gezondheids- en onderwijsdirectoraten en het dorps ontwikkelingscomité) en hebben al goede contacten opgedaan de afgelopen jaren door het helpen bij verschillende projecten op het gebied van onderwijs en gezondheidszorg.
In juni 2019 zijn wij begonnen met de bouw van een kraamkliniek bij het gezondheidscentrum in Yundum. Een lang gekoesterde wens van de gehele gemeenschap aldaar.
Het gezondheidscentrum biedt, naast prenatale zorg en baby consultatie, ook eerste hulp. Maar wanneer een vrouw moet bevallen is er daar geen gelegenheid voor. Een lange reis naar de dichtst bij zijnde kliniek of ziekenhuis gaat vaak ten koste van levens.
De bouw van de kraamkliniek is daarom zeer noodzakelijk!
Er sterven te veel jonge vrouwen en baby’s, omdat er in de directe omgeving geen kliniek is waar goede artsen kunnen helpen bij de bevallingen. Er is in het hele gebied maar één ambulance die de vrouwen naar het dichtst bij zijnde hospitaal kan brengen.
Met de beschikbaarheid van een kraamkliniek bij het gezondheidscentrum in Yundum zal dit zwangere vrouwen aanmoedigen om zich binnen de eerste drie maanden van de zwangerschap te melden en daar uiteindelijk te bevallen. Zo kunnen complicaties tijdens zwangerschap en bevalling voorkomen worden.
Inmiddels hebben wij goed contact met Wilde Ganzen die ons financieel willen ondersteunen, maar er is nog heel veel geld nodig om de gehele kliniek te kunnen financieren.
Door deelname aan deze Antwerpen Banjul Challenge kunt u daadwerkelijk financieel bijdragen om de bouw van de kraamkliniek eind 2020 af te kunnen ronden.

Project Description The foundation conscious of the need to contribute individually and collectively to improve the situation, condition, and wellbeing of people for a better health and education for all. The maternal mortality of female deaths per 100,000 live births from any cause related to or aggravated by pregnancy or its management (excluding accidental or incidental causes). The includes deaths during pregnancy, childbirth, or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and site of the pregnancy. ? These have been in the increase at Yundum and the surrounding villages due to many factors including lack of labor ward at Yundum health facility and the nearby villages, with a population of about 100,000 people there is not labor ward for pregnant women to deliver at the health facility. The project will immensely reduce the risks pregnant women faced in Yundum and the surrounding villages during pregnancy due to limited access to health facilities with labor ward (delivery room) and the long distances to travel in other to access these health facilities with labor ward due to transportation challenges. ? With the provision of labour (delivery room) at Yundum Health facility, this will encourage pregnant women to report to the health facility within their first three months of pregnancy and deliver (gave birth) at the health facility to avoid any complication during pregnancy, delivery and after delivery without any stress of travelling to access other health facility with labor ward.

Project Sustainability
|
The project will be sustained through the MOU with the Village Development Committee and Regional Health Directorate. There is a taskforce committee set up for the supervision and monitoring of the facility.
This taskforce will be meeting quarterly to review the progress and challenges of the health facilities and take appropriate action necessary. |
